Laura B. Fickes 82, of Bedford died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. She was born on September 19, 1933 in Berlin, a daughter of the late Charles and Blanche (Foy) Kurtz. On December 23, 1953 in Osterburg, she married Bernard W. Fickes, who preceded her in death on November 19, 2012. She is survived by the following family: a daughter, Kathryn B. Rose, and companion Kurt Nicodemus, of Bedford, and two sons: Robert W. Fickes, and wife Gwen of Lancaster, and Gregory A. Fickes and wife Dotti of East Freedom; five grandchildren: Kimberly J. Diehl, and husband Brent, Rebecca R. Siters, and husband James, Steven W. Fickes, Cody A. Fickes, and wife Jennifer, and Dustin C. Fickes, and wife Ashley; nine great-grandchildren: Dalton, Joseph, Samantha, Chelsea, Sydney, Haley, Gage, Randsom, and Blake; a step-granddaughter, Lacey Custer; a sister, Pearl Scott, widow of Bruce, of Buffalo Mills; two sister-in-laws: Shirley Nicodemus, and Dores Cripes; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Snyder; two brothers: Ralph and Charles Kurtz, and a step-brother, Jessie Vanderbilt.
Laura was a homemaker, and worked for the former Bedford Springs Hotel. She enjoyed tending to her garden, taking care of her lawn, and crocheting. Laura loved having her family at her house and providing meals for all of them. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bedford Colonial Courtyard, and Grane Hospice for the loving care they provided Laura.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor John Hollis, officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m., until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
