Larry J. Burkett, 41, of Jennerstown, formerly of Bedford, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 while camping with his family. He was born on June 4, 1971, in Bedford a son of the late Lawrence J. and Gloria (Miller) Burkett who survives of Bedford. On October 8, 1998 in Schellsburg, he married Rebecca Thompson who survives along with four sons: Jesse Hackshaw, Joshua Thompson, Jonathon Burkett, Isaiah Thompson, and a daughter; Sarah Burkett all of Jennerstown; five special children he raised, Steven Hilton, and wife Angela and there son Bryce of Bedford, James Thompson and wife Amanda of New Baltimore, Ashley Whisman and daughter, Kiarra and son Zayden all of Boswell, Aaron Thompson of Frederick, MD; and many other children he was a father figure and uncle too, also surviving are three sisters Linda Fluke and husband Joseph of Hopewell, Norma McGee of Bedford, and Tammy Taylor and husband Craig of New Paris.
Larry was a member of the Somerset Christian Fellowship Church. He worked as a machinist for H.W. Nicholson welding and manufacturing and prior to that he worked for JMF in Johnstown and Hedstrom in Bedford. He enjoyed dirt biking, hunting, fishing, camping and most of all being a family man first in a tight knit family always putting the kids first.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 12:00 p.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Bill Dodson officiating. Burial will be private. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gloria Burkett, 351 Pensyl Hollow Road, Bedford, PA 15522 to assist with final costs.
