Kathryn Caro

Kathryn "June" Caro, 84, of Forbes Road, Bedford, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at HealthSouth in Altoona. She was born on March 10, 1930, in Bedford, daughter of the late Elmer and Erma (Harbaugh) Claycomb. On October 13, 1956 in Bedford, she married John M. Caro, and he preceded her in death on February 2, 1984. She is survived by sons Greg Caro of Wheeling, WV, and Steve Caro of Altoona; four grandchildren John “Bart” Caro of Houston, TX, Kathryn “Katie” Caro of Arlington, VA, Christian Caro, of Hollidaysburg, and Steven “Graham” Caro, also of Hollidaysburg; and a sister, Faye Latshaw of Bedford.  Her daughter, Teresa “Terry Jo” Caro, and one sister, Flora Mason, preceded her in death.

June was a member of the St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church in Everett. She worked at the Bedford County Memorial Hospital as a Nurse Anesthetist for over 40 years.  A graduate of Bedford High School class of 1948, June then attended Radford College in VA followed by Cumberland Hospital School of Nursing and the Harrisburg Hospital Anesthesia School where she completed her CRNA degree.  In the early 1960’s, she was one of the founders for the New Hope Care Center that later became Bedford/Somerset MHMR.  June was a member of the Soroptimist Club, ITC Toast Masters, Rivers Bend Golf Course, and the Elks Country Club.  She enjoyed golfing, reading, horses, painting, and traveling to all the continents except Antarctica.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church in Everett with Father Derek Fairman Celebrant.  Burial will follow at the Everett Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the New Hope Foundation Scholarship, In memory of Terry Jo Caro and Others, Allegheny College of MD Foundation, Inc. 12401 Willowbrook Road, SE, Cumberland, MD 21502.   Her online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
