Kathleen B. Smith

Kathleen B.  Smith 86, of Arandale Street, Bedford, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.  She was born September 26, 1925 in Pitcairn, daughter of the late Clair D. and Minola (Brown) Baker.  She was married to Jesse Dale Smith and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1998.  She is survived by three children; Jacqueline K. wife of Morton D. Epstein of Harrisburg, Clair D. Smith married to the former Paula Gordon of Mechanicsburg and Cyndie  L. wife of Gary Koontz of Bedford, six grandchildren; Justin and Jason Schetrompf, Jeff and Amy Smith, and Stephanie wife of Joshua Leibfreid and Kaitlin wife of Cody Grimes. Also surviving are three great grandchildren; Emslee and Finnley Leibfreid and Reese Grimes who affectionately called her “GiGi” and a sister Dorothy Blank of Johnstown, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by four brothers; Jack, Craig, William and Robert Baker, husband of Charlene of Pitcairn.

Mrs. Smith was a member of St. John’s UCC Church in Bedford.  She was active in the Exxon Annuity Group and with church activities.  She enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends, and was like a second mother to many, especially Carolyn Almond and Bryan Stiffler.  She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Penquins and Steelers fan.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Joseph Puleo afficiating.  Burial at Messiah Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to the charity of your choice.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
