Katherine “Cassie” Stoler McIntyre, 91, of Bedford, died Tuesday April 12, 2011, at her home. Cassie was born in Saxton, on July 28, 1919, and graduated from Saxton High School in 1937. She was predeceased by her parents, Edna M. (Horton) Stoler and Daniel M. Stoler, as well as her brother, Walter M. (Mack) Stoler and her sister, Emily S. Fuss. On May 5, 1943, Cassie married J. William (Bill) McIntyre, who died in April 2008, shortly before they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Cassie attended business school in Harrisburg and was employed for a period of time in Lancaster, as a secretary. She married Bill, who was serving in the Army, and they lived for several years in Philadelphia as Bill finished law school. In 1949 they settled in Bedford.
Cassie is survived by three children: son John W. (Jack) McIntyre, and his wife Karen, of Monroeville, son Richard W. McIntyre and his wife Penny, of Bedford, and daughter Margaret M. (Marnie) Derabasse, and her husband, Richard, of Port Matilda, Cassie has three grandchildren: Heather McIntyre, Kristin Derabasse and Daniel Derabasse.
Cassie enjoyed reading, music, swimming, being with family, and getting together with her good friends. As an amateur pianist at home she could often be heard practicing Ellington's “Sophisticated Lady”. She always looked on the bright side of life throughout her 91 years.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Pastor Jeffrey Welsch officiating. Burial at Bedford Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
