Joseph M. Novatny Sr.

Joseph M. Novatny Sr., 85, of Flitch Road, New Enterprise, died Friday, October 16, 2015, at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. He was born on March 14, 1930, in Richland Township a son of the late John and Margaret (Matcho) Novatny. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma P. Burger. On February 28, 1994, in Winchester, VA, he married Patty L. (Notestine) Novatny, who preceded him in death on January 31, 2015. He is survived by a son Joseph M. Novatny Jr., of Johnstown, a daughter Gloria J. Novatny, of Johnstown, two step-sons: Todd England, married to the former Janine L. Fink, of New Enterprise, and Chris S. England, married to the former Tammy M. Brady, of Alpharetta, GA; three step-grandchildren: Garret C., Sarah E., and Amelia M. England. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol A. Novatny.
Mr. Novatny was an Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart and Korean Service Medal, with 3 Bronze Stars. He then recorded 26 years in the U.S. Army National Guard Reserves, and retired from Bethlehem Steel. After retiring he enjoyed setting up his flea-market booth in Springs, PA, with his wife Patty, and going to auctions. He was an avid Steelers, Pirates, and Notre Dame fan.
