Joseph C. Mattas Jr.

Joseph C. Mattas Jr., 70, of  Bedford, died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at His Residence.  He was born on December 16, 1934 in Altoona, The son of the late Dr. Joseph Charles Mattas Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth (Bowers) Mattas. He is survived by the following  family, 2 daughters, Charlotte Ann wife of  Niels Fallisgaard, of Bainbridge Island, Wa, and Carol Jean wife of  David Todd Ritchey of Everett, 3 sons, Joseph Lynn married to the former Deborah Llewellyn of Bedford Valley, David Michael married to the former Bonnie Markey of York, and Robert Wayne married to the former Kathleen Dechman of Owensboro, KY.  13 grandchildren, a sister, Dr. R. Barbara Mattas of Reston, VA, and former wife, N. Naomi (Akers) Crone, of Kent, Wa.

Joe was a dairy farmer from the early 1950’s till 1973.  There after, raising beef cattle until the late 1980’s.  He then began an antique business from which he retired from in 2001.  He enjoyed reminiscing of his field and track days, hunting rabbits with his beagle’s, farming, reading all sorts of books especially history, watching movies and especially loved a good game of chess.

Funeral Services, Saturday, February 12, 2005, at 11:00 AM from the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with the Rev. Doug Friant officiating.  Burial in Alto Rest Cemetery in Altoona, Friends will be received on Saturday at 9AM until the hour of the service, at the funeral home.  Those wishing may make contributions to the American Diabetes Association , P.O.
