Joseph Martin

Joseph   Martin, 84, of Hollidaysburg Veteran’s Home, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Altoona Area Hospital.  He was born on May 16, 1923 in Central City, a son of the late Perry J. and Cora (Imler) Martin. He is survived by the following family, son, Steve Martin and wife Terry of Cumberland, MD, son, Larry Martin and wife Sandy of Columbus, OH, daughter, Kathy Ann wife of Dorrel McClain of Columbus, OH, five grandchildren:  Stephanie, Julie, Brad, Chad and Megan and five great grandchildren:  Sara, Tara, Thomas, Brey, and Alex, brother, Charles Martin and wife Betty Jane of Jackson, Mich, sister, Mary widow of Allen Hershberger of Enumclaw, WA, sister, Jeanie widow of  Wardell Power of Venice, FL, sister, Ethel widow of Donald Weyant of Schellsburg, and sister, Patricia widow of Boyd Foor of Bedford. He was preceded in death by one infant son, three brothers:  James Ernest, John, and Francis Martin and an infant sister Dorothy.

He was of the Catholic Faith and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.  He was a WWII Army Veteran and was captured with four other men who had all escaped from the Germans.  He retired form a Heating and Air Conditioning Company in Texas and prior to that worked at Cumberland Brewery

Funeral Services:  Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford with Father Donald Dusza Celebrant.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com
