Joseph M. Johnson

Joseph Mark Johnson, 88, of Greencastle, formerly of Columbia, MD, died Monday November 7, 2011 at Chambersburg Hospital. He was born on March 26, 1923, in Six Mile Run, the son of the late John and Roxena (Kline) Johnson.  On June 10, 1949 he married Marjorie L. Cottle who preceded him in death on February 13, 2008. He is survived by a daughter, Ruthann wife of Brooke Jenkins, of Columbia, MD, a son Joseph Johnson married to the former Linda Kubilius, of Greencastle, five grandchildren: Brookeann, Bryanna, Richard, Joshua, and Cole; a brother, William Johnson, of Bedford; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Mark Johnson; and two sisters: Virginia Armon and Ruthann Johnson.

Joseph was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Corps, and was a original member of the “Billy Mitchell Group” flying several B29 Missions in the Pacific Theater during World War II.  He received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Television Engineering from the American Television Institute of Technology, and later retired as a production engineer from Emerson Electric.  He enjoyed family camping trips and spending time with his grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday December 17, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Burial at Steele Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
