John (Sonny) Howsare, 83, of Menchtown Road, Everett, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 14, 2022 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born at home in Rainsburg, on November 6, 1938, the second son of the late John David and Evelyn (Lewis) Howsare.
Sonny is the father of two surviving sons: Stephen W. Howsare of Everett; John Todd Howsare and wife Shawna of Everett and two step-daughters Raquel Brittain and husband Bob of Upper Black Eddy and; Rebecca Romaszewski and husband Ray of Ottsville; one grandson: Aaron S. Howsare and fiancée Tracey of St. Thomas; three step-granddaughters Brooke, Corrine, and Taylor; and two great-granddaughters: Lindsey and Taylor. He also survived by his wife Jackie (Williams) Howsare of Mench and the following siblings: Rev. Fred L. Howsare and wife Betty Ann of Bedford; Peggy L. Young and husband Paul of Bethesda, MD; Robert L. Howsare widower of Joyce of Bedford; Richard L Howsare and wife Faun of Bedford, Cary Jean Stultz and husband Jeff of Everett; Mary Jane Nee of Bedford; Garry W. Howsare of Clearville; Thomas E. Howsare of Clearville; Sharon E. DeLaney, husband Dr. Page DeLaney of Bedford; and James D. Howsare and wife Vicki of Clearville; and many nieces and nephews. Sonny was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Ann Kairath, a brother Harry S. Howsare, and a stepson Mark Robinson.
Sonny retired from Greyhound in Breezewood as head of maintenance and drove bus prior to transferring to maintenance. He was also a mechanic on several local race teams. After retirement John devoted his time taking care of the grounds of J & J Howsare Farms. He enjoyed mowing, brush hogging, cutting wood, and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his two dogs Lucy and Pete and could be seen on any given day taking them for a car ride.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at the Woods Church in Rainsburg with his brother Rev. Fred Howsare officiating. Burial will follow at Woods Church Cemetery. Friends will be received on Friday 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
