John E. Drenning

John E. “Jack” Drenning 85 of Woodside St., Bedford, died Friday June 12, 2009 at his home.  He was born April 18, 1924 in Roaring Spring, son of the late George W. and Marie C. (Wendel) Drenning.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Ruth Dietz on December 31, 1985.  On February 27, 1993 at the Bethel Christian Church in Purcell, he married Evelyn M. Clark and she survives along with four sons: John E. “Jack” Drenning married to the former Jill Heckman of Bedford, Max W. Drenning and companion Joy Thompson of New Bloomfield, Barry L. Dietz, Larry E. Dietz both of Berlin, a stepson, Gary May, married to the former Beverly Clark of Clearville.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two brothers: Wendell Drenning, husband of Theresa of Bedford, William Drenning and two sisters, Kathryn Tew and Frances Diehl.

Mr. Drenning was a retired truck driver for Spector Freight and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II with the Army Air Corps.  He was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church, Bedford American Legion Post 0113, Bedford VFW Post 7527 and the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.

Funeral Services: Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Dan Oldham officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to the Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church, P. O. Box 15, Fishertown, PA 15539 or the Fort Bedford Honor Guard, c/o Pete Innes, 205 Red Oak Road, New Paris, PA  15554 in his memory.
