John D. Brenner Sr.

Bedford

John David Brenner 84, of Bedford, formerly of Virginia, died Thursday, October 13, 2022.  He was born in Kilmarnock, VA on August 22, 1938, the son of the late John and Frieda (Dunkinson) Brenner-Baltzegar.  On December 27, 1970, he married Bonnie L. (Will) Brenner who preceded him in death on April 8, 2006. On June 7, 2008, he married Patricia (Fleet) Hawksworth Brenner, who survives him along with two sons: John D. Brenner Jr. and wife Tara (Defibaugh), of Carlisle, and William R. Brenner and wife Colleen (Dunn), of Bedford; one granddaughter Caitlyn Michele, two grandsons: Jacob Tyler and Nicolas William, three step-daughters: Amy Davies and husband Timothy, of Bedford, Erica Hawksworth and fiancé Thomas Morgan, of Alexandria, VA, and Wendy Weber and husband Jeremy Fitzsimmons, of Idaho Springs, CO; many nieces and nephews, and a brother-in-law Ollie Fleet and wife Sherry, of Gilbertsville.  He was preceded in death by a brother Robert A. Brenner.

John served six years in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until 1961.  He was employed at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital from 1964 until retiring in 1999 as a registered Medical Technologist (AMT 1961).  John was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, member and past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose Family Center #480, and American Legion Home Association of Bedford Post #113.  He was also a Master Mason in Freemasonry of Bedford Lodge No. 320 F&AM, 32nd Degree of Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Altoona, a Noble of Jaffa Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Altoona, member in good standing of JAFFA Temple Legion of Honor, and past Bedford County Shrine Club.  John was a gardener and enjoyed golf, poker, pool, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, and traveling.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Fr. Richard Tomkosky officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on Monday, from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in John’s name.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
