Joel P. Fisher

Joel P. Fisher, 53, of South Thomas Street, Bedford, died Friday, April 17, 2009 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born on November 21, 1955, in Fort Dix, NJ, a son, of the late David S. and Helen L. (Wertz) Fisher who survives of Winchester Va. along with a daughter, Lesley A. wife of Jesse Yarnell of Augusta, GA, a son, David S. Fisher of York, a sister, Karen L. wife of Barry Deuel of Winchester, VA, a brother, Zane S. Fisher and wife Melissa of Bedford Valley, one nephew Corwin S. Fisher, and two nieces  Regan Deuel and Deirdre Fisher.

He was of the Lutheran Faith.  He was a member of the Bedford American Legion Post #113, Bedford Moose Lodge # 480, and the a social member of the Bedford VFW Post #7527. He worked as an inspector for Houseworth Lumber Company, and after it closed he went into business as a handy man.  Joel had a great sense of humor, a great smile and loved his family and being around people.  His hobbies included motocycles,  nature the outdoors and hunting.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2009, at 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Raymond Short officiating.  Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  Friends will be received on Sunday from 1:30 until the hour of the service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 3759 Business Route 220 Ste# 202, Bedford, PA 15522.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
