Joanne Hammond

Joanne Hammond 83, of Bedford, died Monday, April 18, 2022 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Bedford Township a daughter of the late John Grover and Lillian Irene (Smith) Hammond.  She is survived by the following nephews and nieces: John Hammond and wife Peggy, of Bedford, Alan Hammond and wife Susan, of Bedford, Debra Stewart and husband Robert, of Leola, and Cheryl Drozynski and husband Joseph, of Mechanicsburg; seven grand-nieces and grand-nephews: Beth Ann Schnieder, Kelcy Shaffer, Kaleb Hammond, Jason Stewart, Sarah Montague, Matthew Drozynski, and Sean Drozynski; eight great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews; and a sister-in-law, Pearl Hammond, of Bedford.  She was preceded in death by a brother Richard Hammond, and a great-nephew, Brandyn Hammond.

Joanne was a member and treasurer of the Messiah Lutheran Church.  She worked for several companies over the years including Standard Register, Thomas Chevrolet, B.J. Maurer Ford, and Hammond Tax Service with her brother Richard.  Joanne enjoyed being outside doing her lawn work, and tending her flower beds, going hiking, biking, and walking around her home place which had been in the family for over 200 years.  She was very independent and looked forward to getting together with her friends and going to dinner.  She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and her wonderful caregivers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor David Wright officiating.  Burial at Bedford Cemetery. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.  Our online guestbook is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
