Janet L. Wertz, 90, of Cessna, was released from the cares of this world, on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. She was born on September 1, 1923, in Imlertown, a daughter of the late Ellis and Hazel (Oliver) Miller. On July 31, 1943, at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Cumberland, she was united in marriage to John A. “Jack” Wertz, who preceded her in death on June 21, 2013. She is survived by the following family: a son John Alan married to the former Linda Amick, of Snake Spring, a daughter Janice Ann, and husband Richard D. Heming, a son James Edward, married to the former Patricia Smith, and a daughter, Joan Ellen married to Clair W. Black, all of Bedford. A loving grandma, she is survived by the following grandchildren: Thomas Arthur Wertz, married to the former Tammy Diehl, Amelie Ellen (Heming) married to Thomas J. Regester, Jr., Timothy Alan Wertz, Joshua Charles Dively, Jason Edward Wertz, Julie Ann (Wertz), married to Richard Jones, Morgan Andrew Heming, married to the former Tracy Roarabaugh, and Amanda Elisabeth (Heming) married to Chip Davis. She was known as “Little Grandma, Bubba, and Mammy” to the following great-grandchildren: Kaitlin Elisabeth (Regester) married to D. Howard Diehl, Brandy Marie Wertz, Jessica Sue Wertz, Tiarra Nickole Swope, Janey Leigh Dively, Leah Alice Wertz, Jordan Thomas Wertz, Hannah Catherine Regester, Kayla Ann, Camryn Alyse, and Lexie Michal Jones, Ava Elisabeth Davis, Addison Nichole Heming, Blake Franklin Davis, and Tristan Andrew Heming and Little Grandma’s great great-granddaughter, Emily Grace Diehl; one brother Leo Emerson Miller, and wife Mary Lois of Bellefonte, and a sister Lillian Margaret Biddle, of Dunedin, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by a brother Ralph Eugene Miller, and two sisters Hattie Pearl Faupel, and Hilda Marie Gordon.
Mrs. Wertz was a 1941 graduate of Bedford High School and a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Everett. She worked as an operator for AT&T, also the former Maurcie’s Department Store, and was a bookkeeper and secretary for the family business, John A. Wertz & Sons Contracting. She enjoyed traveling, her family, and had a sweet tooth.
Rite of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, with Father Derek Fairman, and Father Donald Dusza Celebrant. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Friday, from 5-8 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford.
