Jane L. Claar, 96 of Donahoe Manor Nursing Home, Bedford, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the home. She was born December 2, 1914 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Ira and Edith (Boise) Walter. In April of 1937 in Roaring Spring, she married James L. Claar and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1991. She is survived by two daughters; Connie, wife of Fred Claycomb of Bedford and Audry wife of Russell Lair of Claysburg, and a son Rick Claar, married to the former Maryann Moore of Osterburg. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, and a sister Erma Myers of State College. She was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.
Mrs. Claar was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford. She was the Jane of Jim and Jane and their Western Vagabonds, who entertained for over 50 years though out Pennsylvania. They also had a TV program on the former WBFG TV out of Altoona for two years and had square dances at the Wagon Shed in Queen for five years. She enjoyed traveling, baseball and mowing her yard.
Funeral service: Monday, March 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford, with Rev. Raymond Short officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday morning, one hour prior to the service. Those wishing may make contributions to the South Central Blind Association, 100 E.
