James W. Wood

James William "Bill” Wood, 79, of E. Penn St. Bedford, formerly of Dalton, GA, died Monday, March 27, 2006 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. He was born on April 17, 1926 in Dalton, GA.  a son of the late James William Wood Sr. and the late Mamie (Butler) Wood. On April 25, 1947 in Dalton, GA, he married Betty J. Wallace who survives along with five children:  Anna Belle wife of Gary E.  Sellers of Bedford, James W. Wood III married to the former Kathy McGill of Bedford, E. Jeanie wife of Carl J. Long of Reading, David E. Wood of Texas, Phillip A. Wood married to the former Gloria Cogan of Schellsburg, Eight grandchildren, Kathy Couch, Michael Sellers, Courtney Leydig, J. W. Wood IV, Carl W. Long, Melissa Rojas, Tiffany and Dalton Wood.  Eight great grandchildren, one brother, Gary Butler Wood of Cohutta, GA. He was preceded in death by one Sister: Dorothy Pye of Dalton, GA.

He was affiliated with the Bedford Church of The Brethren. He retired in 1988 after 38 years driving bus for American Trailways. and he received a Two Million Mile safety Award in 1982.  He was a World War II Army Veteran who severed in the European theater.

Funeral Services:  Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM from the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with the Rev. Melvin Van Orman officiating. Burial in the Schellsburg Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Those wishing may make contributions to the Bedford Church of The Brethren, Donahoe Manor Road, Bedford, PA 15522 in his memory.
