James E. Nevitt, 76, of Hawthorne Drive, Everett, died Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Homewood in Martinsburg. He was born on January 24, 1935, in Bedford, son of the late George W. and Evelyn (Wolfe) Nevitt. On June 24, 2004 in Santa Fe, NM , he married Andrea M Laurent and she survives along with two sons, Andrew Nevitt and wife Julie of Saratoga, CA, and Robert Nevitt and wife Kimberly of Morgan Hill, CA, three step-daughters: Christi Russo, Michelle wife of James Conway, both of West Chester, and Leslie wife of Oliver Gambrell of Oxford, five grandchildren, Grace, Bryce, Adrienne, Hannah, and Griffin, six step-grandchildren: Dustin, Zachary, Christopher, Michael, Oliver, and Caroline, one sister, Phyllis wife of Frank Miller of Bedford.
Mr. Nevitt was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church. He graduated and wrestled at Bedford High School and Dartmouth College and also graduated from the War College in California. He was a pilot in the Navy for 25 years, half of which he served in the reserves and retired after 29 years as a Captain for Delta Airlines. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #320 F& AM, Bedford American Legion, Bedford VFW, and the Bedford Historical Society.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park, with military rites conducted by the fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
