James E. Croner, 83, of Fairhope, died Sept. 7, 2026, at Windber Hospice, after a brief illness. Born August 4, 1943, in Meyersdale, he was the son of Harold and Catherine (Brubaker) Croner. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughters: Andrea (Homer Jr.) Kreinbrook and Alison Croner; granddaughters Maeve Kreinbrook and Catherine and Claire Cober; and his beloved canine companion, Angel. James was a 1961 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and served with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He was the co-owner of three different coal companies: Croner Inc.; C & O Coal Company, and Co-Fo-O Coal Company. He was a member of the Meyersdale American Legion. His biggest passion in life was fly fishing. James traveled the world to fish for trout, salmon, tarpon, and bonefish. Private interment at Pine Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in James’ memory to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, PA, 15963. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
