James E. Berkey

James E. Berkey, 67, of Bedford, died on Friday, February 10, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born on August 17, 1955 in Everett a son of the late Luther E. and M. Pauline (Egolf) Berkey. On March 26, 1977 in Bedford, he married Mitzi (Shaffer) Berkey who survives along with a son, Lukas Berkey and wife Christal of Everett; two grandchildren: Cory J. Berkey and Benjamin L. Berkey; one sister, Pamela Berkey of Mechanicsburg; one brother-in-law, Mike Shaffer and wife Tina of Bedford; one nephew, Michael Shaffer of Bedford, and one niece, Amy Solar of Claysburg; and two dogs Sam and Boone.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in law, Roy and Dorothy Shaffer.

James was a member of the United Church of Schellsburg. He worked for L.B. Foster from 1977 till his retirement in 2022.  He enjoyed classic cars and attending car and tractor shows.  He also was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family especially the grandsons.

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may make a memorial contribution in James’s name to the Bedford County Humane Society, 183 Bohn Road, Bedford, PA 15522.  Arrangements by Timothy A.
