J. William (Bill) McIntyre, 88 of Bedford, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home. He was born, January 30, 1920 in Six Mile Run, son of the late John McAlpine and Margaret (Anderson) McIntyre. He was married to the former Katherine (Cassie) Stoler, of Saxton, on May 5, 1943, by the Reverend Norman S. Greenawalt at the United Church of Christ in Saxton. He was predeceased by his sister Jean Hinman, and two brothers, Donald McIntyre and Dr. Leon McIntyre.
Bill graduated from Defiance High School, Staunton Military Academy, Franklin & Marshall College and received his law degree from the Pen Law School at the University of Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Army, graduated from Officers’ Training School and served his country in World War II, during which time he spent a year in Panama in the 151st. Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division.
He was past President of the Bedford Lions Club, a member of the American Legion, past President of the Bedford County Bar Association and past Master of Bedford Lodge #320 F & AM. He was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church and served on various committees. He also was the Attorney for Altoona First Savings Bank for many years.
Bill was honored as a member of the Bedford County Bar Association for 53 years of outstanding and dedicated service to the legal profession until his retirement at age 81.
He is survived by his wife, Cassie and his son John (Jack) W. McIntyre, Jr., and his wife Karen, of Monroeville; son Richard W. McIntyre and his wife Penny, of Bedford; and daughter Margaret (Marnie) M. Derabasse and her husband Richard, of State College. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Alberta McIntyre, wife of Donald and Geneva McIntyre, wife of Leon. He is also survived by grandchildren Heather McIntyre, Kristin and Daniel Derabasse, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services: Thursday 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. Burial at Bedford Cemetery. Friends will be received on Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 P.M. and ½ hour prior to the service on Thursday afternoon.
