Ida May Bailey, 85, of 284 Arandale Street, Bedford, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Colonial Courtyard. She was born on November 14, 1924 in Friends Cove, to the late Warren A. and Ora (Nevitt) Diehl. On March 6, 1949 she married Thomas E. Bailey at Trinity United Church of Christ in Friends Cove. Thus, began a wonderful 60 year marriage that ended with Tom's death in 2009. A sister, Evadean (Diehl) Burkett also preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Fern (Diehl) Price of Bedford; her daughter, Susan, and husband, Rod Cober of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two grandsons, Andrew Cober of Reston, Virginia and Ben Cober of Bloomington, Indiana.
Ida May graduated from Bedford High School in 1941. She was a graduate of Catherman's Business School and worked for Fairchild Aircraft Corp. in Hagerstown, MD and Western Union during WW II. She began her long career with the First National Bank in Bedford in the late 1940's, retiring in 1984.
Among Ida May's interests and activities were her beautiful flower gardens, crafts, and travel. She was a member of the DAR, Bedford Garden Club, and RSVP. She was active in her church, St. John's Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ in Bedford.
Ida May was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Her faith in, God, and positive outlook were an inspiration to her family and friends, and her appreciation for the beauty of life was apparent in her warm greetings to everyone she encountered and her gratitude for all of the blessings she had received.
Funeral Services: Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ in Bedford with the Rev. Joseph Puleo officiating. Burial at the Trinity United Church of Christ, in Friends Cove. Friends will be received on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 1- 3 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m.. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ida May's name to St. John's United Church of Christ, 144 W.
