Hilda D. Hixon

Hilda D. Hixon, 90, of Bedford, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. She was born on June 28, 1922, in Bedford, a daughter of the late Ambrose and Cora (Howsare) Wertz. On March 25, 1940, in Bedford, she married Lawrence "Pickle" Hixon who preceded her in death on May 3, 2002.  She is survived by a daughter Mary Louise wife of Keith Veach of Bedford, a granddaughter Lori wife of Wayne Wallace of Scottsdale, AZ, two grandsons Brian Veach and wife Patricia of Roseville, MN, and Kevin Veach and wife Dallison of Fairfax Station, VA; five great-grandchildren: Jenni, and Paul, both of Roseville, MN,  Quinton, Kendall, and Kiera all of Fairfax Station, VA; two brothers Glenn A. Wertz of Bedford, and Leroy G. Wertz of Maryland, and a sister Marguerite Whitfield of Bedford. She was also loved by many wonderful nieces and nephews and a very special friend of the family Betsy Walton.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cora Joan Hixon, a granddaughter Lisa Carol Veach, two brothers: Lloyd and Donald Wertz, and three sisters: Eleanor Mazinko, Marion Miller, and Patricia Martin

Hilda was a member of the St Thomas Catholic Church and throughout her life held many jobs in Bedford, including Tour Guide and Craftsperson at Old Bedford Village.  She enjoyed Crossword Puzzles, her family and visiting with her friends at the Fort Bedford Inn Apartments.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at the St Thomas Catholic Church, in Bedford, with Father Donald Dusza celebrant.  Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford. Those wishing may make contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society, 1004 N.
