Helen B. Judy, 100, of Bedford, was born at the Bedford Springs Hotel farm house in Bedford, on March 26, 1912, the daughter of the late Samuel E. and Adda Mae (Shaffer) Hoagland. On November 17, 1932 in Bedford, she married Orus Judy. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1982. She is survived by one daughter, Betty L. (Judy) Davis of Bedford, a sister Doris wife of Ned Wolfe of Bedford, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by these brothers and sisters; Sylvester “Wes” Hoagland , Gladys Holler, Verna Sellers, Kenneth M. Hoagland, Hazel Mae Zembower and S. Ray Hoagland, husband of Thelma Hoagland who survives of Bedford.
Helen and Orus retired in 1977 as former owners of Judy’s Motel in Bedford.
She was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church, a past member of the Bedford County Hospital Auxiliary, the Bedford County Garden Club, Bedford Springs Chapter No. 41, Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the retired Senior Volunteer Program and was a long-time volunteer for the Bedford Foodbank, where she had worked from its inception until July of 2012, when she was 100 years old.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Rev. Jeff Welsch officiating. Burial at Bedford Cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service on Monday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bedford United Methodist Church, 132 E.
