Harold M. “Butch” Shoemaker, 94, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at Bedford Post Acute. He was born on January 9, 1932 in Centerville, a son of the late Robert D. and Pauline B. (Zembower) Shoemaker. On March 15, 1952 in Cresaptown, MD, he married Ruby E. (Shirey) Shoemaker and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2021. He is survived by three sons: C. Rhett Shoemaker and wife Deborah, Max A. Shoemaker and wife Nancy, and Brooks R. Shoemaker and wife Jennifer, all of Bedford; eight grandchildren: Travis James Shoemaker and wife Christine, Amanda Foor and husband Josh, Casey Shoemaker, Chad Shoemaker and wife Meggie, Mollie Turkovich and husband Robert III, Taylor Shoemaker, Nathan Shoemaker, and Samantha Shoemaker; and eight great-grandchildren: Robert IV, Max, and Van Turkovich, Archie, Arlo, Caleb, and Colin Shoemaker, and Hayes Foor.

Butch was a proud 1949 graduate of Bedford High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and worked at Tristate Electrical Supply Co. in Cumberland, MD for 45 years. He was a member of the Bedford American Legion #113, and a member and former secretary of Bethel United Methodist Church and a caretaker for the cemetery. Butch was an avid Penn State football fan, enjoyed following his grandchildren in their activities and sporting events, and took great pride in maintaining his garden and home at all times. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Bedford Post Acute as well as Gentiva Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Kathy Dom officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Friends will be received on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
