Harold E. “Hoot” Nave, 86, of Bedford, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Pennknoll Village Nursing Home. He was born on December 3, 1922, in Somerset, a son, of the late Lewis "Lute" and Ella (Sollenberger) Nave. On April 29, 1943 in Cumberland, MD he married Edna Pearl “Pokie” Diehl and she preceded him in death on January 16, 2004. He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn wife of C. Robert Koontz of Bedford four grandchildren: Rob married to the former Susan Steed of Bedford, Kevin married to the former Mary Jordan of Harrisburg, Deron married to the former Sara Welsh of Bedford, Dana wife of Chad Bulger of Bedford, eight great grandchildren: Logan, Morgan, Katie, Macy, Adam, Baylee, Lindsay, and Taylor, one brother, Ray Nave of Bedford, two sisters: Helen Sellers Callihan of Bedford, and Della Clark of Bedford. He was preceded in death by one brother Tolbert "Tuck" Nave, two sisters: Ethel Anderson and Dorothy “Dot" Grimes Crites.
He was a member of Friends Cove UCC. He worked at the Bedford Farm Bureau, and then managed the Bedford Elks bowling alley. He and his wife were the owners of the Charlesville General Store. “Hoot” enjoyed hunting, golfing, bowling, softball, cards, and his garden. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He amused others with his stories and jokes and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great -grandfather .
Funeral Services: Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. graveside at the Friends Cove UCC Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul E. Claycomb officiating.
