Harold C. Diehl

Harold C. Diehl, 92, of Colonial Courtyard, formerly of Pensyl Hollow Road, Bedford, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 22, 2013.  He was born near Imlertown, Bedford Township, on October 6, 1920, a son of the late Lloyd E. and Mary (Beegle) Diehl.  On April 22, 1943, in Bedford Township he married Mildred P. Hyde who preceded him in death on August 20, 2011. He is survived by four sons:  Terry Diehl, and wife Diane, of Belle Vernon; Larry Diehl, and wife Judy, of Chester, VA; J. Rodney Diehl, and wife Susan, of Brentwood; and Robert Diehl, and wife Jody, of Shippensburg; ten grandchildren:  Jeffrey Diehl and wife, Anju; Holly Desai and husband, Ritesh; Ryan Diehl; Rachel Strup and husband, Peter; Kelly Waltz and husband, Johnathan; Benjamin Diehl; Christopher Diehl and wife, Kelly; Patrick Diehl and wife, Julie; Jonathan Diehl and wife, Jessica; and Stephen Diehl; six great-grandchildren:  Keturah Musuraca, Sam Desai, Elizabeth, Emily, Mason and Nolan Diehl; two brothers:  Raymond E. Diehl of Martinsburg and Merle E. Diehl and wife, Ruth of Bedford; one brother-in-law, James C. Hyde and wife, Dawn of Liverpool.  He was preceded in death by one brother Allen Diehl and one sister Madeline McPherson.

Harold was a World War II Veteran serving as an airplane mechanic in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945.  He was a faithful, active member of the Milligan’s Cove Christian Church, serving as a trustee and church treasurer, and a loyal member of American Legion Post #113.  He was a skilled mechanic and a productive gardener.  Harold had a long career with Dibert Feed Service where he operated a mobile feed grinder.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with the Rev. Russell K. Hoffman, Jr. officiating. Burial at the Milligan’s Cove Christian Church Cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Milligan’s Cove Christian Church c/o Mrs. Paul Shoemaker, 4924 Business 220, Bedford, PA  15522.  Our online guest book is available at berkebilefuneralhome.com.
