H. Genevieve Heming

H. (Gene) Genevieve Heming 88 of Garvey Manor, Altoona formerly of Bedford died October 21, 2001 at the home.  She was born February 12, 1913 in Bedford County a daughter of the late James and Anastasia (Beemiller) Andrew.  She is survived by the following brothers and sisters:  Irvine I. Heming of Rd #6 Bedford, Gertrude wife of Glenn Kimberlin of Cumberland Md., L. Max Heming married to the former Guelda Sulser of Texas.  And many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Patrick and Joe, 4 sisters: Grace Finn, Sophie Braman, Lenore Grabenstein, Mary Imgrund, and an infant sister Mildred.

Miss Heming was a lifetime member of the St Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford.

She worked as a Nurse Supervisor and as an assistant director of nursing at Bedford County Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the Bedford County Nurses Assoc., Pennsylvania Nurses Assoc. and International Nurses Assoc.  In 1930 –1934 she attended the Allegheny Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland Md. She also received a bachelor’s degree from Pitt in 1956.  She had also been in every State of Union, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Bauaria, and Austria.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Saturday at 10:00 AM from St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford, with Father Raymond G. Crosser officiating.  Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.  Friends can be received Friday from 2-7 PM at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 4:30 PM.
