Gus G. Sotirokos

Gus G. Sotirokos, 92, of Court St., Bedford, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at his home.  He was born on August 10, 1919, in Scottdale, a son, of the late George P. and Karrie (Georgacopolis) Sotirokos.  On March 25, 1951, in Bedford, he married Harriet Clarr,  who survives along with five children:  a daughter, Patty wife of Terry Black of Elizabethtown, a daughter, Cynthia Rugh of Bedford, a son, Steven Sotirokos married to the former Karen Way of New Paris, a daughter, Valerie wife of Kelvin Way, of Bedford, a son, Tim Sotirokos married to the former Michelle Clark, of Bedford; 12 grandchildren: Andrea, Allison, Justin, Jason, Andrew, Adam, Phillip, Jarrod, Brandon, Ben, Joshua, and Athena; and two great-grandchildren: Jett and Jocelynn. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Peter and Earnest; and an infant brother and sister.

Gus was a 1938 graduate of Bedford High School. He was on the first wrestling team and wrestled the state champion. He was a WWII Army Veteran, a member and past Deacon of the St. Johns United Church of Christ, a member of the Lions Club, the American Legion Post # 113, Life Member of the Bedford Elks Post # 1707, and the Last Surviving Original Member of the Bedford VFW Post # 7527.  Gus was part owner with his brothers of the former K & M Restaurant for over 75 years, he was always there enjoying and joking with the customers, and he was also part of the K&M Presidential Advisory and Golfing Society.   He also owned the Trio Motor Lodge for 25 years. Gus enjoyed golfing with the golfing society and family.  He will always be remembered for having a good sense of humor and loving life

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. John’s United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Joseph Puleo officiating.  Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.  Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Those wishing can make contributions in Gus’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Laurel Highland Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, Pa. 15601.
