Gordon Stroup

Gordon E. Stroup, 89, of Fort Myers, Florida, died Thursday, December 3, 2020, at his residence. He was born January 15, 1931, in Sewickley, son of the late Stanley G. and LaRue K. Stroup. On November 20, 1955 in Bedford, he married Jane (Howsare) Stroup and she preceded him in death on July 27, 2008.  He is survived by five children: Stanley W. Stroup of Wayne, Steven M. Stroup and wife Janice of Bedford, Tammy L., wife of Pat Watson of Bedford, Kathleen T. Kifolo of Ocean City, MD, and Daniel G. Stroup of Georgetown, Texas; also eleven grandchildren: Ryan J. Stroup, Zerick Stroup, Quentin Stroup, Catie Stroup, Samantha Stroup, Alex Stroup, Steven Stroup, Lance Kifolo, Lincoln Kifolo, Liam Stroup and Broden Stroup.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Riggs.

Gordon graduated from Bedford High School in 1949, attended Juniata College and then graduated from Penn State University in 1953, served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1956, attended Dickinson School of Law and graduated in 1959 with honors.  He attended St. John’s United Church of Christ and was a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher.  He was a local Attorney actively practicing from 1959 to 2005 when he retired.  He served as Bedford’s District Attorney for 16 years.  He served as Solicitor for numerous Authorities and School Districts in the Bedford Area.  He was a loving father, an avid golfer and tennis player.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday,  January 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bedford with Rev. Brady Plummer officiating.  Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.  In lieu of flowers those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 144 W. John St., Bedford, PA.
