Gordon L. Bowers

Gordon L. Bowers, 87, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. He was born on August 18, 1938 in Roaring Spring, a son of the late Ralph S. and Mina Pauline (Mentzer) Bowers. On April 12, 1958 in Gainsboro, VA, he married Carol A. (Sellers) Bowers and she survives along with a daughter: Lynn Ann Elliott and husband John of Bedford; two granddaughters: Megan L. Elliott of Bedford and Jordan E. Elliott of Altoona; and two great-grandsons: Ryan A. and Chase R. Cornell. He was preceded in death by a half-brother: Jack Hite and his wife Audrey.

Gordon served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea at the end of the conflict. He worked in Management for the Pennsylvania Electric Company, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its council, and served on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army. He was a 60 year member of Woodbury Lodge #539 F&AM, a member of Chapter and Mountain Commandery, and the Jaffa Shrine. He was also a former member of the Bedford Lions Club and served on the Bedford Borough Council for 12 years. He was also a former member of the Bedford Development Council until it was dissolved.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. David Weinhold officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard as well as a Masonic Service. Friends will be received on Thursday from 4 - 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
