Gladys Rebecca Young 80 of Main Road, Friends Cove, died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital in Bedford. She was a born on June 9, 1922 in Loysburg, a daughter of the late Charles R. and Mary Catherine (Steele) Veach. She is survived by the following children. Patricia Turner of Everett, Melissa Nash of Winchester, Va., Sylvia Bailey of Slanesville, W.Va., Liona Altemus of Bedford, Andrea Young of Friends Cove and a son Whitney Young of Guyton, Ga., 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, a sister Fern Smith and a brother Marl R. Veach of New Enterprise, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Donald and 2 nephews.
Mrs. Young was a member of the Yeager Lutheran Church and a graduate of Bedford High School class of 1940. She was a homemaker, a restaurant employee and worked as a switchboard operator. Mrs. Young was a descendent of Frederick and Andonia (Wren) Friend, which is where Friends Cove got it’s name, and is also where she spent the greater part of her life.
Funeral Services Thursday at 11:00 AM from the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with the Rev. Paul E. Claycomb officiating. Burial in Woods Church Cemetery. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
