Gladys K. Van Horn

December 8, 1918 — February 10, 2007

Gladys K. (Sue) Van Horn died February 10, 2007, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, after a brief illness.  She was the only child of the late B.F. Koch and Lottie (Goss) Koch, having been born in Snyder County, on December 8, 1918.

Gladys graduated from Beaver Vocational High School, Beavertown, Pa., in 1937.  In 1941 she obtained a B.S. Degree in Home Economics from Juniata College, Huntingdon.  Thereafter she completed post graduate studies at the Pennsylvania State College.

On May 12, 1945 Gladys married Ellis William Van Horn Jr., who survives along with their two children, Daniel F. Van Horn and his wife Betsy of Arlington, Va., and Cheryl Berkheimer, of Hanover and  a granddaughter Stephanie Riley, also of Hanover and three great grandchildren.

Before her marriage Mrs. Van Horn taught high school home economics and worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Navy.  She was a resident of Bedford from 1947 to 1989, where she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.  She and her husband relocated to Hollidaysburg in 1989 and became members of Zion Lutheran Church.  While in Bedford she was active in various community organizations.  Mr. and Mrs. Van Horn became residents of Homewood Retirement Community at Martinsburg in July of 2006.

There will be no visitation.  Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.  Those wishing may make contributions in her memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, 106 West Penn Street, Bedford, Pa. 15522, or Zion Lutheran Church, Allegheny & Union Streets, Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.
