Bedford

George R. Hainley, 89, of Bedford died on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born on August 11, 1929, in Altoona, a son of the late George Nelson and Myrtle Aretta (McGarvey) Hainley. On March 26, 1954, in Altoona, he married Nellie L. (Kagarise) Hainley who survives along with the following family: two daughters, Dr. Susan Beth Hainley of Duncansville, and Trudy Eileen Heise and husband Steven of Bedford; one grandson Andrew Heise of Florida;  two sisters, Betty Trotter of Altoona, and Cheryl Buck and husband Ronald of Edgewater, MD.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Baird.

George was a member and sang in the choir at the Bedford United Methodist Church.  He graduated from Millersville University Teachers college with a bachelor’s degree in education and retired after 28 years with the Bedford Area School District as a Biology Teacher. He also worked in the summers for 20 years at Farmers Hardware. He was a Korean War Veteran who served from 1951 – 1953 and was a member and past commander of the Bedford American Legion Post 113, and a member of the Harmony Hill Barbershop Singers.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 5, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Jim Miller officiating.  Burial will be private. Full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard will be held at the funeral home.  Friends will be received on Monday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
