Gene E. Gilpin Sr.

Gene E. Gilpin Sr., 89, of New Paris, died on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at his residence. He was born on July 27, 1936 in Everett, a son of the late Earl P. and Janet (Pennell) Gilpin. On May 12, 1969 in Winchester, VA, he married Emma Marie (Lockard) Gilpin and she survives along with a son: Gene E. Gilpin Jr. of New Paris; a daughter: Lacey J. Gilbert and husband Brandon of New Paris; and two grandchildren: Emma C. Bower and Geney E. Gilbert. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Virginia Jay and Frederica “Freddie” Barkman.

Gene attended Everett High School and later served in the U.S. Navy, where he was a part of the flight crew on the USS Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier and worked on engines. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he also served in the National Guard. He worked in manufacturing at Hedstrom, where he retired from after 15 years. He enjoyed building model boats and airplanes, yard work, and woodworking.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Jim Miller officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park with full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
