Gemma L. Baker

July 27, 1941 — March 10, 2012

Gemma Louise “GG” Baker, 70, of S. Juliana Street, Bedford, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Altoona Regional Hospital.  She was born on July 27, 1941, in Bedford, a daughter, of the late Stanley T.  and Sophie L. (Heming) Braman.  She is survived by two sons: Lewis F. Baker II, married to the former Sherry Howsare of Alum Bank,  James G. Baker married the former Pamela Sadler of Bedford, nine grandchildren:  Morgan, Mariah, Molly, Cameron, Cody, Joseph, Aaron, Jessica, Noah, & Jenna, a sister, Margaret  J. Bollinger of Cumberland, MD, a brother, Lawrence A. "Fred" Braman of Baltimore, MD, a sister, Catherine E. Harris of Cumberland, MD, and a sister, Christina E. Wilson of Bedford.  She was preceded in death by one grandson James Robert Baker, and two brothers:  Vincent and Benedict "Ben" Braman.

She was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church.  Gemma had worked for the Bedford Springs in the mid 60’s and then went on to operate her own daycare.  She retired after 26 years as a Bedford County 911 dispatcher.  She enjoyed her bible study and extended family at the Methodist Church and also planting and growing flowers with her grandchildren. She received a master gardening certificate from the Penn State Ext.  She had a love for baby animals and took care of them in her own home.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford with the Pastor Jeff Welsch and Rev. Dr. Brian Black officiating.  Burial will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  Our online guest book is available at www.berkebilefuneralhome.com.
