Gary Lee Young, 61, of Highland Road, Schellsburg, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1952, in Johnstown, a son of the late Calvin L. and Leora (Kaltenbaugh) Young. On August 24, 1974, in Bedford, he married Luisa (DiFabio) Young, who survives along with the following family: two daughters: Megan A. wife of Seth Boyer of New Paris, and Morgan A. wife of Brett Sell of Johnstown; two sons: Tylor Lee married to the former Reagan Haverly of Bedford, and Tanner J. Young, of Schellsburg; two granddaughters: Eva and Alexandra Boyer, and Tylor expecting in August.
Mr. Young was a 1970 graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School, and was the owner of Denny’s Restaurant, in Bedford, for 25 years, he also owned Gary James Designs, Keystone North Professional Building, and Point Construction Company. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schellsburg, Bedford American Legion Post #113, and a former member of the Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company. He served on the board of directors for the Bedford County Historical Society, and Tourist Promotion Agency. He was an Artist, Sculptor, Professional Kettle Soup Maker, and Beekeeper. He loved Corvettes, auction sales, history, gardening, drinking ice tea, star gazing, hunting, spending time with his family, and being a pap.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Church of Christ in Schellsburg, with Rev. Ruth Shaver and Rev. Raymond E. Short officiating. Burial at Schellsburg Cemetery. Friends will be received on Sunday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, and one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church in Schellsburg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Gary’s name to Bedford County Historical Society Inc., 6441 Lincoln Highway, Bedford, PA 15522.
