Frederick D. “Fred” Hinkle, 71 of Yellow Creek, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born on February 10, 1944, in Puttstown a son of the late Elvin C. and Susan P. (Boose) Hinkle. On August 10, 1968 in Tatesville, he married Linda (McFarland) Hinkle who survives along with the following family: Frederick Hinkle, married to the former Carol Kegg, of Breezewood, Rhonda wife of Darrin Newman, of Wells Tannery, Kevin Hinkle married to the former Yvonne Franklin, of Martinsburg, and Brian Hinkle married to the former Ashley Yoder, of Loysburg; 11 grandchildren: Keenan & Kyler Fink, Chelsea Franklin, Dylan, Waylon, Camden, Holden, Noah, Logan, Braden, and Emily Hinkle; two brothers: Clair D. Hinkle, widower of Annamary (May), and Barry L. Hinkle, married to the former Mary Ritchey, both of Saxton; four sisters: Doris E. wife of Chester Spencer, of Prineville, OR, Patsy A. wife of Carl Barnett, of McConnelstown, Shelby J. wife of Dennis Sweeney, of Everett, and Darlene S. wife of Steven Notestine, of Saxton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Hinkle, widow Carol (Hinkle) Neiman surviving of Killeen, TX, and an infant sister, Shirley M. Hinkle.
Fred was a graduate of Liberty High School, and served in the Army as a Sergeant, during the Vietnam War. While enlisted he worked as a Radar Technician, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and received the Expert Marksman Pin. He worked for numerous construction companies throughout his life with the bridge building crew. He was an avid NASCAR fan, supporting his favorite drivers Bill Elliot and Kasey Kahne. Fred enjoyed woodworking, and tending to his garden.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford, with Pastor Curtis Bryant and Pastor John Geyer, officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Burial at Yellow Creek Reformed Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m, at the funeral home, and from 9:00 a.m., until the hour of the service on Wednesday.
