Father Giancarlo “John” Vago 59 of E. Penn Street, Bedford, died Saturday, December 14, 2002 at his residence. He was born in Inveruno, Italy on April 18, 1943 a son of the late Giuseppe and Luigio (Zamzottero) Vago. He is survived by two sisters: Augusta Vago and husband Achille and Renata Vago and husband Gluseppe both of Italy and the following nieces and nephews: Giovanni Barni, Flaviano Leoni, Grazia Barni, Luigino Ferrario and Giada Ferrario.
Father John first served as an assistant pastor at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Altoona from 1970-1972, St. Benedict Catholic Church in Geistown from 1972 until 1975, St. Mary Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg from 1975 until 1983, he served as pastor at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Emeigh and Holy Incarnation Catholic Church in Marstellar from 1983 until 1989 at which time he became pastor of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford and also in 2000 he became administrator at Seven Dolors BVM Church in Beans Cove.
Funeral Mass: Friday at 11:00 AM from the St. Thomas Catholic Chuch with the Most Reverend Bishop Joseph Adamec officiating along with the Diocese and Clergy. He will be waked on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM, and on Friday from 2:30 – 5:00 PM at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Bedford and from 6:00 until 6:45 PM at the St. Thomas School Hall in Bedford, where another mass will be held there at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Thomas School c/o St. Thomas Catholic Church 215 East Penn Street, Bedford, Pa. 15522 in Father John’s memory. Interment will be held in Inveruno Italy. Arrangements by Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
