Evelyn F. Stinson

Evelyn F. Stinson, 97, of West Pitt Street, Bedford, died Saturday, December 25, 2010 at her residence.  She was born on February 15, 1913, in Bedford, at the National House which is now the Golden Eagle Inn, a daughter, of the late Emanuel B. and Amanda V. (Smith) Fickes, who were the proprietors of the Inn at that time.  On December 31, 1930 she Married John D. Swartzwelder and he preceded her in death March 20, 1974, then on July 24, 1978 she married John Stinson Jr., and he preceded her in death on August 27, 1995. She is survived by the following family, a son, John C. Swartzwelder  and wife Theresa of Basking Ridge, NJ, a step-daughter, Sally K. Faust and husband Ed of Chambersburg, a step-son, Clyde W. Stinson of Bedford, a step-daughter, Linda S. Taylor and husband John of Bedford, two grandchildren: Melanie DeCicco and Suzanne Swartzwelder, three step-grandchildren Traci Weyant, Jon Taylor, and Jill Defibaugh, three great grandchildren Gabrielle Pajewski, Ashley DeCicco, and Phillip DeCicco, four step-great grandchildren Alexa Weyant, Hailee Taylor, Gracie and Emma Defibaugh, and one great great granddaughter Hailey Pajewski.  She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Lou Swartzwelder, one granddaughter, Wendy Swartzwelder-Foley, four brothers:  William, Clyde, Glenn, and Samuel Fickes, and one sister, Sarah M Fisher.

She was a life long member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She worked at Lowry’s Supermarket in Bedford, in the late 1940’s, Barton’s Fashion, in the 50’s  and then retired in 1974 after 19 years of working as a Foreman for Lions Manufacturing in Everett.

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may make contributions in her name to the Humane Society of Bedford County, 1108 Lutzville Road, Everett, Pa. 15537. Arrangements by Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
