Evelyn H. Kent, 91, of Milligans Cove Road, Manns Choice, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at her residence. She was born on June 9, 1923, in Fort Riley, KS, a daughter of the late Gen. William K. and Eva (Toole) Harrison Jr. Her father, Gen. Harrison was the chief negotiator of the Korean Truce, in 1953. Her grandfather, Commander William K. Harrison, married to Kate Harris, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor at the Battle of Vera Cruz in 1914. She was married on July 28, 1945, in Pulaski, TN, to Russell H. Kent Jr., who preceded her in death on April 17, 1975. She is survived by, a daughter, Terry, wife of Dennis M. Scancella, of Flushing, MI, a son, Russell H. Kent III married to the former Jean Watrous, of Tewksbury, MA, and a daughter, Tracy wife of Coleman S. Pratt, of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren, Nathaniel H. Kent, and wife Mira, Deborah A. Kent, Joanne E. Carroll and husband Samuel, Michael T. Scancella, and wife Jenifer M., and Jonathan Pratt, and wife Teresa S.; two great-grandchildren: Evelyn T. Scancella, and Ellis M. Pratt; a brother W. Terry Harrison, and wife Andrea K., six nieces and nephews, Janice K. Sanders, wife of Peter, William T. Harrison, and wife Lisa, Thomas H. Harrison, and wife Suzanne, Ruthanne Wilson, and husband Terry Mark, Robert B. Harrison, and wife Kimbra, and Margaret Federico, and husband Kyle, fourteen grand nieces and nephews, and four great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hannah M. Pratt, and a brother, William K. Harrison III.
Mrs. Kent resided in Springfield, for 43 years. She was a member of Lownes Free Church, the Blue Church, and the Milligans Cove Christian Church. From 1977-1988, she worked at the Institute of America as exam center coordinator. In 1988, Mrs. Kent moved to Manns Choice, to serve as a volunteer receptionist in the office of the Officer Christian Fellowship Conference Center, in White Sulpher Springs. She enjoyed singing with the Retired volunteer singing group at the local nursing homes.
A memorial service was held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at White Sulpher Springs, in Manns Choice, PA and burial was held on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Milligans Cove Cemetery in Manns Choice, PA.
