Evelyn L. Howsare

October 10, 1918 — February 24, 2009

Evelyn L. Howsare, 90, of South Juniata Street, Everett, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Pennknoll Village, where she had received tender, loving care since March, 2008. She was born in Keedysville, MD on October 10, 1918, a daughter of the late Edward and Lola (Butts) Lewis.

Evelyn loved her life as a homemaker and mother of 13 children. She was a lifelong church member and taught Sunday School for many years in Rainsburg.  She loved cooking and baking for her family and the many others who dined at her table. She also loved gardening and canning.  Evelyn had a strong commitment to the Lord and said her Faith and her children got her through many obstacles in life. Her last 13 years in her little home on South Juniata Street were some of the happiest and most peaceful of her life.

Evelyn was the widow of John David Howsare, whom she married in 1936. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1995.  Evelyn is the mother of 5 daughters and 8 sons. Surviving are: Rev. Fred L. Howsare, husband of Betty Ann Lowery, of Bedford; John E. Howsare, husband of Jackie Williams, of Everett; Peggy L.,  wife of Paul Young, of Potomac, MD; Robert L. Howsare, husband of Joyce Koontz, of Rainsburg; Richard L. Howsare, husband of Faun Whitfield, of Bedford; Gary W. Howsare, of Chaneysville; Thomas E. Howsare, of Black Valley; Cary Jean, wife of Jeff Stultz, of Everett; Mary Jane Nee, of Schellsburg; James D. Howsare, husband of Vicki O’Neal, of Clearville; and Sharon E. wife of Dr. Page DeLaney, of Bedford, a sister Margaret, wife of Eugene Bowers, of Frederick, MD, 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter Ruth Ann Kairath and a son Harry S. Howsare, husband of Theresa Wendell, of Black Valley, and a brother Albert Leon Lewis.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Woods Church in Rainsburg with the Rev. Fred Howsare Officiating.  Burial in Woods Church Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Timothy A.
