Ethel L. Cook

June 11, 1918 — June 30, 2015

Ethel L. Cook, 97, of Bedford and formerly of Windber, joined her God and her family the evening of June 30, 2015 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard.  She was born on June 11, 1918 in Windber a daughter of the late Austin and Ada (Cassiday) Hoffman.  She married John J. Cook, and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1972.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  She is survived by a niece:  Carol Curley and husband Bill, of North Port, FL, six great nieces and nephews:  Kyle Maurath-Petras of Grafton, OH; Jennifer Ettorre of Cleveland, OH; Patrick Hofford of West Lake, OH; Mary Hofford, of Cleveland, OH;  Christopher Hofford of Phoenix, AZ;  and Amy Baldarrama of Franklin, TN;   and long-time friend Cheryl Stahl of Bedford, and numerous  grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister,  Leora Hoffman, a brother  Eugene Hoffman and wife Evangeline, a sister, Laredo Loomis and husband Herb, a brother, Robert Hoffman and wife Evelyn, and an infant sister Mary Frances Hoffman;  two nieces:  Marilyn Hofford Morino and Donna Griffith.

Ethel was a member of the Bedford Church of the Brethren.  She worked as a deputy Clerk in the Prothonotary’s Office in the Court House and also for Dr. Wheeler for many years.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. from the Bedford Church of the Brethren   with Pastor Marylin Lerch officiating.  Friends will be received 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.  Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. They family wants to thank Colonial Courtyard for their wonderful care of Ethel over these last 8 years; we, her family, are in absolute awe of the care you provided and are forever grateful.   In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the, Bedford Church of the Brethren, 310 Donahue Manor Road, Bedford, PA 15522.
