Ellis E. Hicks

Ellis E. Hicks, 82 of Concord Drive, Bedford died, Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home in Bedford.  He was born August, 28, 1928 in Tippecanoe, Ohio, son of the late Howard and Martha (Tetirick) Hicks.  On October 7 , 1950 in New Castle, he married Mary Bailey and she survives along with the following children; Nancy wife of Dennis Kriek of Glenshaw, Nathan Dale Hicks married to the former Linda Mahoney of Downingtown, Doris wife of William Stiffler, DDS of Bedford, Alan Roy Hicks married to the former Faith Wingerd of Crofton, 12 grandchildren; Bryan Michael, Christopher and Andrew Stiffler, of Bedford, Robyn and Rebekah Kriek, of Glenshaw, Daniel, Kimberly and Amy Hicks of Downingtown, Amanda and Heather Hicks of Crofton, MD and Haylee Hicks Hanling and Jacob Hanling of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Also surviving are two brothers; Virgil Hicks and wife Mae of Akron, OH, Roger Hicks and wife Jean of Pinehurst, NC and a sister Lowella Hicks Fouts of Gnadenhutten, OH.  He was preceded in death by a son Randall James Hicks, husband of Stacy Hicks Hanling of Mt. Pleasant, SC, his stepmother, Sara Greer Hicks and a sister Ada Ruth Stonebrook.

Mr. Hicks was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the choir. He was a member of the Harmony Hill Singers and Bedford Masonic Lodge #320 F & A.M. where he served as Chaplin, and the Harrisburg Consistory. He was an Army Veteran who had served in the Korean War, and was retired from Bell Telephone Company.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev. Jeff Welsch officiating.  Burial at Bedford Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Monday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday morning.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bedford County Library, 240 S.
