Edwin C. “Ted” Ickes, 89, of Fishertown, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Donahoe Manor Nursing Home. He was born on March 29, 1926, in Bedford, a son of the late Edwin C. and Margaret (Miller) Ickes. On November 3, 1951, in Cumberland, MD, he married Eva B. (Ickes) Ickes who preceded him in death on July 18, 2008. He is survived by two sons: Wayne C. Ickes, of Fishertown, Boyd E. Ickes and companion Tracy Dravis, of Schellsburg; a daughter, Linda B. Smith and husband Randy, of Alum Bank; seven grandchildren, Danielle Dallara and husband Dave, Chad Bowers and wife Candi, Randi Smith, Brian Ickes and wife Kristy, Chris Ickes, Charleen Ickes, and Chelsie Ickes; four great grandchildren, Cody and Ethan Dallara, and Chazz and Cemi Bowers. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, and one brother Raymond Ickes widow Donna who survives of Rapid City, SD,
Ted was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the Fishertown Community Bible Church. He retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike with Everett maintenance after 19 years and prior to that worked for Alwines, drove delivery truck for Howard Johnson’s and worked the parts counter at Automotive Supply Company. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, fishing and golfing.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Ned Donaldson officiating. Burial will be private. Full military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard on Saturday at the funeral home. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 - 5 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
