Edward H. Terpening, 88, of Bedford, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1921, in Everett, a son of the late Edward E. and Margaret (Howard) Terpening. On December 24, 1941 in Pulaski, VA, he married Irene R. Richardson who preceded him in death on October 20, 2006. He is survived by a cousin Charlotte Urban of New Cumberland.
Ed was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bedford. He was a WWII Navy veteran and worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor supervisor at the state government level. Ed was raised by and very fond of his maternal grandmother Stella Howard of Everett, and graduated from Everett High School in 1938 and Virginia Tech in 1951. He was the past commander of Bedford American Legion, former president of Easter Seal Society, a member of the Everett Masonic Lodge #524 F. & A.M. and Bedford Moose Lodge #480. He was a former Federal Banking examiner for FDIC, and former director of Friends Cove Mutual Insurance Company.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, in Bedford with the Pastor Raymond E. Short officiating. Burial at the Everett Cemetery. Friends will be received on Thursday from 7-9 p.m., and on Friday a half hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
