Dottie Mae Straub

Dottie Mae Straub, 69, of Pennknoll Village, passed away gracefully and peacefully surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, October 19, 2017 at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 17, 1948, in Bedford, a daughter of the late Oscar J. Straub and Dorothy (Calhoun) Straub Hughes. She is survived by a brother, Joseph C. Straub, married to the former Ruth Winesickle, of Bedford, a sister, Susan S., wife of Gerry Shipley, of Bedford, and Safety Harbor, FL, a half-brother, Woodrow Clapper Jr, married to the former Diana Labuda, of Central City, and many nieces and nephews.

Dottie Mae attended St. Xavier Academy in Latrobe, to complete her high school years. She was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church, and occupied her time working at the Bedford County Workshop.  Anyone could see through Dottie and her special needs that she was a good-hearted and caring person.   She had a way to win anyone over with her talented “saleslady-like” approach and bring you laughter while winning her requests.   She loved to collect and read the Bedford Gazette newspapers and enjoyed recalling and sharing the events to remind everyone she knew what was current in Bedford.  She remembered holidays, birthdates, and anniversaries, and always selected cards that suited her friends and family.   Her love for puppies was a support for her, as well as a very caring brother, family and caretakers.   She will now be in heaven with her best friend and very missed loving Mother, and reunited with her Father.   She was loved and will be missed and A special thank you to all those that supported Dottie and showed her kindness.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  Those wishing can make a memorial contribution in Dottie Mae’s name to the Humane Society of Bedford County, 1108 Lutzville Road, Everett, PA 15537.  Arrangements by the Timothy A.
