Dorothy Jean “Dottie” Hoagland, 91 of Bedford, died on Saturday, August 9, 2026 at Bedford Colonial Courtyard. She was born on January 12, 1935 in Roaring Spring, a daughter to the late Daniel R. and Dorothy B. (Foor) Davenport. On June 4, 1965 in Bedford she married R. Merle Hoagland and he preceded her in death on March 23, 2007. She is survived by a son Rusty E. Corle and wife Debbie of Bedford; a daughter: Ivy L. Ritchey and husband Victor of Bedford; two step-sons: Gregory M. Hoagland of Boise, ID and Timothy C. Hoagland and wife Beth Ann of Harrisburg; four grandchildren: Heidi Showalter and husband Donald of Bedford, Christopher M. Corle and wife Kelli of Blue Ridge Summit, Dustin D. Ritchey and wife Tammy of New Baltimore, and Ryan R. Ritchey and wife Danielle of St. Robert, Missouri; Three step-grandchildren: Kristy Hoagland of Mt. Holly Springs; Sophia and Olivia Hoagland both of Harrisburg; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one on the way. 3 half-brothers: William I. Lingenfelter and wife Nancy of Everett; Timothy R. Lingenfelter and wife LuAnn of Spotsylvania, VA; and Tommy K. Lingenfelter and wife Susan of Bedford. She was preceded in death by her son Terry L. Corle, ex-husband James R. Corle, step-granddaughter Jennifer Wall, and 1 brother: Duane Davenport and 1 half-brother Jerry L. Lingenfelter.
Dottie was a member, taught Sunday School, and served on the church council at the St. John’s Christian Church in Cessna. She worked multiple jobs in her life starting at the age of 12. She was the co-owner of Bedford Beverage and started the Hodge Podge Craft Shop in Bedford. She enjoyed getting together with her family, making crafts, playing cards, bowling in leagues at the former Chalybeate and volunteering at the Old Bedford Village making candles.
A Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John’s Christian Church in Cessna, with Rev. Eric Larson officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Wednesday, from 2 - 4 and 6 -8 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
