Dorothy M. Greenawalt

Dorothy M. Greenawalt 84 of S. Richard St., Bedford, formerly of Snake Spring Valley, died Thursday March 26, 2009 at Altoona Hospital.  She was born on August 31, 1924 in Rainsburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Ima P. (Amick) Ressler.  On March 19, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD she married John L. Greenawalt and he preceded her in death on October 11, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy J.,  wife of Samuel Staily of Everett,  and Judy L.,  wife of James D. Smith of Bedford, four grandchildren: Tina K. Dull, Zane K. Staily and wife Jane, Tracy L., wife of Timothy A. Foor and Mitchell J. Staily, two step-grandchildren: Laura and Lisa Smith, nine great grandchildren: Matthew, Kayley and Sarah Dull, Alexandra, Savanna and Brett Foor, Christy and Kevin Staily and Corey Miller,.  Also surviving are two brothers, Clyde Ressler, and wife Betty of Bedford and Paul Ressler of Fishertown.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Dennis  and Cleva Cornell, and two brothers Harold and William.

Mrs. Greenawalt was a member of the Bedford Church of the Brethren. She had worked at Snyder’s Gateway in Breezewood for 25 years.  In the early 1950’s she was presented with an award as the first “Foster Mother of the Year” from the Bedford County Child Welfare Services.  She loved playing bingo with the senior citizens at the Fort Bedford Inn and reading her Bible.

Funeral services: Monday, March 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. from the Bedford Church of the Brethren with Pastor Marilyn E. Lerch officiating.  Burial at the Woods Church Cemetery.  Friends will  be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home Inc., in Bedford, and half hour prior to the service at the church.  Our online guest book is available at wwwberkebilefuneralhome.com.
