Doris R. Johnson, 85, of Vondersmith Avenue Bedford, died Thursday, July 24, 2003 at her daughters residence. She was born on March 11, 1918 in Pittsburgh, A daughter of the late John Westley Jackson and Julia (Bush) Jackson Kimbrough, In 1937 in Cumberland, Md., she married John Arthur Johnson who preceded her in death on May of 1943. She is survived by 1 son, John A. Johnson Jr. married to the former Lynn Buckey of Bedford, 1 daughter, Phyllis C. wife of Harold E. Johnson of Bedford, 2 grandsons Benjamin & Matthew Johnson, 2 step granddaughters Joycelyn Johnson & Kimberly Bryant, 1 great grandson Marc Bryant, 3 Sisters, Evelyn Paige of Rockville, Md, Annabelle Brown of Cleveland, Oh, Wealthea wife of Danny Davis of Pittsburgh, and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 brother Oliver Rhubottom and 1 sister Ruth E. Smith.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Mt. Pisgah AME Zion Church where she played the organ for 55 years, she was also a member of the AARP. She was a well known seamstress in the Bedford County Area. She also had worked at Letterkenny during WWII.
Grave side service at 1:00 PM Saturday at the Mt. Ross cemetery where family and friends are invited to attend. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 2nd at 1:30 PM from the Mt. Pisgah AME Zion Church with the Pastors Vincent Martin & Booker Betts officiating. Arrangements by the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford.
